Offroad and on the Trails

Back from Another Oregon Trip

Black Butte

This year we spent about a week in Oregon for the Christmas holiday. We got back a few days ago and I’ve just started going through the many photos I took on the trip. Expect new posts and galleries as time permits.

Our annual visits are primarily to visit family and this one was no exception. We managed to see most of them (but not all) and also managed to tick some boxes off of the Oregon “must do” list: the Astor Column, Evergreen Aviation Museum, and Ninkasi brewery in Eugene being the big ones. We also revisited the aquarium and Rogue HQ, both in Newport. I also managed to take a new route from the coast to Eugene on the way home, adding to our exploration of the state.

The list of things we didn’t manage was pretty severe. I found only 5 random caches on the entire trip, and most of those were targets of opportunity. Same for benchmarks. I brought my snowshoes but there unfortunately was no Christmas snow in Clatskanie this year. I was pretty bummed about that. Also I got in zero hiking!

Oregon’s weather did not disappoint. We had heavy winds and rain, snow, several hailstorms, thunder and lightning, occasional glimpses of sun and/or blue sky, and a water spout just south of us on the coast.

Next year I’d really like to take the Jeep on the car ferry from the Astoria area across the Columbia River to Washington state. I’m not sure how the logistics of that will work though.

Anyway, I’ll see how quickly I can get going on the trip posts and photos.
