Offroad and on the Trails

Workin' for a Livin'

I expect that updates to my blog will be sparse for a while, since I’m averaging 6-1/2 day work weeks between the REI gig and my new day job. Things should settle down in a few months though… I hope.

If not, you can at least look forward to some really bizarre, nonsensical posts as my sleep-deprived mind attempts to cope!

On the plus side, the annual Henry Coe backcountry weekend is about seven weeks away. I’m really looking forward to that, and enjoying the research involved in shopping for new backpacking gear. My hiking boots are pretty well shot and new ones are in order, and I’m also looking at a new tent, sleeping bag and pad, and I should pick up my new internal frame pack (a GoLite Quest) tomorrow after work (at my other work.)

Adding up the weight of last year’s tent, stove and fuel, pack, sleeping bag and pad, I estimate that this year’s equivalent items will be a full seven pounds lighter. I just hope I won’t have to carry so much water that it will offset that savings. Nice weather and running streams would be perfect.
