Overdue Update

Gee, who would ever expect a blog might go an entire month without an update? It seems so unlikely; how often can such a thing happen? 😉

One reason for the lack of updates (aka “excuse time”) has been the lack of interesting things to report. We hit a string of weather that was pretty unpleasant, so for a few weeks on most days it was hotter than Jessica Alba in a whipped cream bikini. I don’t enjoying tough or long hikes so much when it’s pushing a hundred degrees out.

So for a week or two I did something I rarely do, and for the first time in years I dusted off the old Xbox and generally relaxed, spending time indoors with the AC on. It felt really weird, and generally just Not Right, but it was OK. I finally finished the last few hours of Halo 2 that I’d put away around the time Allison was born. I also realized that with the Xbox 360 out, all of the many cool games that I had missed on my Xbox were now available on eBay for about 1/10th of their original price. So I was also able to score a lot of good games for less than the shipping cost.

I did do a short (about 5.5 miles) hike in Almaden Quicksilver with my old hiking buddies, which was cool. We visited some spots (Bull Run, Victoria shaft, etc.) where I’d been a zillion times, but some others like the San Cristobal tunnel and English Camp where I’d not been for a while. We were fortunate and hiked on a relatively cool morning and were done by about 1pm.

Other than that mostly I’ve been to some urban caches in the area, and those are mostly nondescript these days, although I have knocked out some more puzzle finals here and there. I’ve been doing a lot more of those lately, perhaps 70 or so in the last six months?

I’m also reading Red Tape and White Knuckles, from the author of Lois on the Loose. It’s similar to Lois on the Loose and I’m enjoying it so far.

This last weekend was a little more eventful – both good and bad – so I’ll get to that in the next post. I’m scheduled to hike again next weekend which is good since I’m feeling fat and out of shape. Or more than usual anyway.
