Offroad and on the Trails

Update in Brief

The Jeep spent most of the day in the shop today. The Borla exhaust header, which had cracked in six places and been rewelded so I could run in the 2007 GBES Rally, was cracked yet again and getting worse. Although under lifetime warranty, the shop was having trouble finding their receipt (again) and Borla was said to have them on back-order. I couldn’t very well drive around with a basket case header until they felt like making more, so I broke down and had a Gibson header ordered. This is my Jeep’s third header, after the Borla and the factory one. Hopefully it is the last!

Also last week a nasty new vibration had surfaced, so until today’s appointment I kept the Jeep driving to a minimum. A bad U-joint was the cause, which luckily is a cheap fix.

I’ve organized a big group of geocachers to head up to the BLM’s Knoxville offroad area this weekend, and I’m looking forward to my first visit there. Other than online pictures I don’t have a great idea of what to expect. Tomorrow I’ve got to get the everything packed and set up for it. Some of the guys headed up today to do an afternoon run nearby, and maybe some night caching, so I’ll be eager to hear how that all went.

I’m almost done reading the inaugural issue of Overland Journal. That first issue has some rough edges, but not many. I think I’m going to really enjoy the magazine.
