Thru Two Tunnels, GC16BB1… A wonderful little adventure.

We had two casualties at these tunnels last Sunday: Carrie lost her sunglasses. My Sidekick ended up sitting on the bottom of the stream under a foot of water, but I turned it off right away once I fished it out. At home, I dried it off and let it air out for about a day and a half before I powered it up again. It was a little wonky at first but it’s been fine ever since, so I think it’s OK…

This weekend we’re going on a local overnight camping trip at Grant Ranch. Allison has been wanting to go camping and she’s all excited that we’re going… And that makes dada very happy.

*fingers crossed*

Back in the day we had a power supply on one of our experiments short and catch fire (80kV at 80amps packs a bit of power), which triggered the fire sprinklers, which drenched all our control electronics and computers, monitors, ‘scopes, etc. Our tech went to work with distilled water and alcohol and I think got everything working again. Still, I have no confidence it would work for me so I try to keep water, coke, beer, chips, etc. out of my keyboard and computer. 🙂

No argument from me. I think it certainly helped that things like cellphones are low-power devices, and nowhere near 80A(!)… I’m not sure I could induce the familiar smell of burning resistors in one of these if I tried.

Compressed air and certain “electronics cleaner” products can also help to remove and remaining moisture, but prevention is the better solution.

At least I’m still way, way behind Motorbug in Deceased Electronic Devices (DED). 🙂

    Thanks for the comments, Phil.
