Here's the most unique marker in the cemetery. "Richard Bertram "Bert" Barrett, HIS ARM LIES HERE, 1898, May it Rest in Peace"...
The rest of Bert Barrett is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery here in San Jose, probably close to 10 miles away as the crow flies. Pretty unusual!
Barrett, the son of a miner, lost his arm at a young age due to a hunting accident. At the time, the law required that limbs be given a proper burial like this. Barrett went on to become the Chief of Sanitation for the Santa Clara County Health Department. He died in 1959.
