The MAttole River. The current was so mild I had to watch little leaves and twigs floating on the surface to determine which direction was downstream. The water was cool but not too cold until it got past my thighs, then I had to submerge myself quickly to get used to it. Allison had no problem with getting cold while swimming. It was a great relief from the weather which was probably around 90F.
