After parking near the top of the ridge, we hiked up the 1/3rd mile (gated and locked) offshoot dirt road that goes up to the old fire lookout tower seen here. It's been here since at least the mid-1940s, but like most other towers in the state it doesn't appear to be used any longer. We found the nearby geocache (which is how I learned about this area) and a benchmark up here as well. (Actually the tower is itself a benchmark.)
It was chilly and windy but fortunately the rain was light while we explored on foot. I'm sure we missed some wonderful views because of the weather, but we still really enjoyed the area and being outdoors here.
