The infamous southern gate. I'd been seeing reports that both gates had been standing open for some time now. Perhaps a change of heart from the Summit Road Association after the Summit Fire? Maybe related to the fact that much grading work seemed to have been done on nearby stretches of Summit during and after the fire? I don't know. The Association's website appears to be nearly a decade out of date.

I'm going to attempt to contact them and see what's up. I don't recommend traveling this stretch (note the signs, the legality of which have been hotly debated) of road in general, unless they're going to throw out the welcome mat.
