After hiking around the 'Iao Valley in the morning, we stopped at a cafe in Wailuku for lunch before heading off to our afternoon hike, the Waihee Ridge trail. This trail was really spectacular.

It was pretty much a relentless uphill grind but the incessant beauty of the trail and the magnificent views kept us occupied and entranced the entire time. We thought about turning back more than once but pushed on and were rewarded with a nice feeling of accomplishment. The Gods rewarded our struggles and achievement by holding back the rains we thought were about to pummel us as we headed down, but which only teased us with a few faint drops.

My friend David who lives on Maui later told me that this was one of his favorite trails on the island, and I could certainly see why.
