This first gallery from our Death Valley road trip covers the drive from San Jose to our hotel in Ridgecrest on the first day, and then the approach to Death Valley the following morning. So the real Death Valley photos don't start until the second gallery. But this one does include the unexpected highlight of the drive there: Kern Canyon.
